MT. EVEREST – 2005
For many people, Mt. Everest is a pilgrimage. It’s a place they spend their entire lives working to reach. Nestled in the Himalaya range in High Asia, it’s the simultaneous picture of strength, beauty, determination and peace. Scaling to more than 29,000 feet above sea level, it’s the highest mountain in the world and one of the most sought-after peaks to scale. In 2005, it became the first destination for mAdventure.

While this maiden trip transpired as much by chance and people’s willingness to say yes, as it did by calculated itineraries and researched plane tickets, there couldn’t have been a more perfect jumping off point to set the tone for mAdventure’s mission.

History of Everest
Found on the border between Nepal and Tibet, Everest has always been a remote destination for only the most loyal adventure seekers. No one even tried to scale the famous peak until the early 1900s; for years, those who lived near the Himalayas believed the peaks were the sacred homes of the gods and not to be tampered with.
The first recorded attempt to tackle Everest occurred in 1924 by British climbers George Mallory and Sandy Irvine who, inevitably, lost their lives on the mountainside. When asked why he cared to summit, Mallory responded, “Because it’s there.” Since their initial attempt in the early twentieth century, Everest has captivated the minds of thousands from around the world and has been summited by nearly 2,500 individuals.

Known as “Chomolungma” in Tibetan, meaning Goddess of the Universe, the local Sherpa and Tibetan people still regard the mountain for its sense of power and soul. It’s believed whoever reaches the summit will be blessed with a longer life.

Our Trip
As a small company of adventurers, we strapped on our backpacks and headed to Nepal. Over the course of a couple weeks, we took our time and scaled to the base camp of Mt. Everest, learning, all the way, about the history of the mountain and the culture of its people thanks to our Sherpa guide. We woke each morning to the breathtaking backdrop of the Himalayas and went to sleep each night to the sounds of the great outdoors.

While our crew stopped at base camp, the Mt. Everest trip epitomized everything mAdventure is about: perseverance, thorough immersion into life, excitement, adventure and opportunity. The trip to Everest got us started in the direction of where we wanted to go and set the bar high for what was to come. After Everest, we knew we were just getting started.
