  Route 66
May 7th to 22nd 2010
mCorp in conjunction with The Adventure Travel Company South Melbourne offer you the chance to "Get your kicks on Route 66".

Take the off ramp into a bygone era and discover the 2,400 miles of Route 66 and see how America travelled from the 1920's through to the 1960's. Whether you’re in a Mustang convertible, Lamborghini or on a Harley Davidson among other irresistible options; this is a nostalgic driving tour that passes a wealth of quintessential, wacky, shake-your-head in disbelief, Americana.

Visit wonderful old trading posts, filling stations, motels, tourist traps, diners and villages along the scenic "Mother Road". Slow down and enjoy the scents of new mown hay and hickory smoke drifting from the pit barbeque chimneys. Stop and stroll through villages that haven't changed since they were by passed by the interstate highway decades ago.

Sample a real American hamburger and a rich, creamy malt that tastes the way they're supposed to. Experience Sky City where native Americans live exactly like they have for hundreds of years. Pull over along a deserted stretch in the Mojave Desert and listen to the hum of the millions of wheels that have passed this way.

This is an iconic journey across the United States of America from Chicago to
Los Angeles.

MAY 7 : Chicago Arrival

We will be met at Chicago Airport and transferred to the hotel, where our guide will be present to give us information about the upcoming adventure. Tonight we can visit the local blues clubs and night life of the windy city or get a good night’s sleep.

MAY 8 : Chicago - Springfield

We pick up our vehicles and start getting ready for the adventure. We head south through Chicago, the old truck stop town of McLean and roar through the coalmining area of Illinois along the Pontiac Trail before entering Springfield, the Illinois state capital. Overnight.

May 9 : Springfield - Rolla

Today we continue our ride further south, cross the state line into Missouri and head toward St. Louis, which is one of the more significant cities here. As we enter Missouri, we will soon be reminded that this is the state where the forests meet the prairie and the Mississippi River meets the Missouri River. We head for the Mississippi River and visit the famous “Chain of Rocks Bridge” and – if time allows – we will make at stop at Miramec Caverns en route. Today we ride up to Rolla, the gateway to Mark Twain National Forest. Overnight.

May 10 : Rolla - Tulsa

From Rolla, we continue our ride deep into the Ozark Mountains, which occupy most of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. This area remained frontier territory until the timber companies moved in at the end of the 19th century. We ride through the towns of Lebanon and Conway and make a stop in Carthage to see the beautiful old courthouse before we enter the state of Oklahoma. Oklahoma is a state that does not often get to crow about being the best in the country but as far as Route66 is concerned, Oklahoma is definitely number one! Containing more miles of the old Highway than any other state and in far better condition, this is a mecca for bikers and old-road fans out here. We travel all the way up to Tulsa, where we overnight.

May 11 : Tulsa - Clinton

Here is where the pavement of Route 66 follows the contour of the land as if it’s always been there. We cover a part of the old west’s Indian country between Tulsa and Oklahoma City. We head west through El Reno, over the mile long bridge, near Bridgeport and into Clinton, the heart and soul of route 66 country! Overnight.

May 12 : Clinton - Amarillo

We rise early for our journey into Texas full of prickly pear and into the "panhandle" continuing through the oil town of Shammrock. We’ll gas up at one of the original gas stations of the old Route 66 and then on to McLean. Get ready for a steak "Texas Style", like a 4 1/2 pounder! We ride up to Amarillo, up in the northern Panhandle. Amarillo may seem cut off from the rest of Texas, but it stands on one of the great American cross-country routes. Overnight.

May 13 : Amarillo - Santa Fe

Today we head out of Texas and into "The Land of Enchantment", New Mexico, after passing through Cadillac Ranch. Have you ever experienced the ghost town of Glen Rio where you can stand with one foot in New Mexico and the other in Texas? With 5 states behind us and 3 ahead of us, we roar through the land of the Commanche and into Tucumcari. Then we head up into the high plains and altitude of Santa Fe in central New Mexico. Overnight.

May 14 : Santa Fe

Today is a day of leisure. We will enjoy Santa Fe, a city that for the last 20 years has ranked among one of the most popular destinations in the US. Overnight.

May 15 : Santa Fe - Gallup

This morning we head south, down to Albuquerque and "old town" for some more sights and sounds of the old west. We cross the Rio Grande and head west - out into the open country and the hues of the Navajo wilderness. Grants and the continental divide lead us into the railroad town and old Indian stronghold of Gallup. Overnight.

May 16 : Gallup - Williams

After entering Arizona, we roar through Holbrook, the Petrified Forest, a fossilized prehistoric forest of gigantic trees that has been unearthed by erosion. As we continue further west we pass the old “Jackribbit Trading Post” and head on to the old western town of Williams, our stop for the next two nights.

May 17 : Williams

Today you have the opportunity to experience one of the 7 natural wonders of the world – The Grand Canyon. As an option you can book a spectacular helicopter ride over the Canyon and take some time to explore Williams, the beautiful quaint little town that offers shopping and dining at its best.

May 18 : Williams – Las Vegas

From Williams we travel further west on the old “Mother Road”, which is bending north here, coming down from the highlands, through the Indian town of Peach Springs into Kingman – considered to be the “Heart of Historic Route 66”. About 20 miles further west we reach the old former gold mining town of Oatman - one place to see with wild burros and wild west style shootouts in the middle of the street. As we continue, we enter the state of Nevada and pass the gaming town of Laughlin on our way north before reaching the world’s crazy gambling capital – Las Vegas. Overnight at Wynn Hotel and Casino.

May 19 : Las Vegas

Today you can tour the casinos along the Las Vegas “Strip”, lay beside the pool and relax or take a tour to the Hoover Dam. There’s so much this city has to offer and you will never be short on entertainment. Overnight at Wynn Hotel and Casino.

May 20 : Las Vegas to - Victorville

We set off early this morning and cross over into California, the final state on our legendary trip down Route 66. We cross the Devil’s Playground and travel along the Mojave Desert, passing through a couple of small towns that seem almost lifeless. We ride through bizarre towns like Amboy and Bagdad; the latter known as the town in the movie “Bagdad Café” and “Out of Rosenheim”. Route 66 leads on interstate 40 and into Victorville for the night.

May 21 : Victorville to Los Angeles

We finish our adventure travelling across Los Angeles to Santa Monica where we’ll find the end of historic Route 66 on Santa Monica Pier. After a break we drop off our bikes at the EagleRider headquarters and get ready for a recap of this great adventure at our goodbye dinner.

May 22 : Los Angeles Departure
